Paid freelance writing opportunities
Black Carbon is looking for bold voices on social and climate justice, commissioning paid freelance pieces with rates dependent on factors such as length, research depth, and expertise.
Who we are
Based in Cyprus, we’re a small but growing independent media platform dedicated to climate and social activism around the world, covering a range of political topics rooted in empathy. Much like the climate crisis, our reach extends beyond borders.
Who you are
Do you have a powerful story, insight, or urgent call to action? Share it with us to amplify your voice. We welcome submissions from writers, researchers, and activists eager to advance the conversation on climate and other social and political issues around the world. If you have an original article or compelling pitch that aligns with our mission, we’d love to hear from you!
Remember, you do not need to be expert to have a voice — but you do need passion, daring, and the overwhelming urge to be the change you wish to see*.
*Ability to articulate is a prerequisite (insert laughing emoji).

Style & editorial guidelines
To ensure quality and consistency, all pieces must adhere to our editorial guidelines. These include:
- A strong focus on climate, energy, sustainability, or other social and political issues;
- Well-researched, fact-based content with sources cited where necessary;
- A clear, engaging writing style suitable for a general audience;
- Original work not published elsewhere.
Although our focus is on climate justice, we do cover other social and political issues.
Please note that we follow British English spelling, grammar, and punctuation. For a more comprehensive guide on style, you may refer to the Guardian and Observer style guide.
How to submit
Send us your pitch via email (info@blackcarbon.media), including a brief bio. We review all submissions, and will get back to you as soon as possible.
Feel free to contact us with any further questions.
We look forward to working with you!
