Assistant (Part-Time / Remote)
Black Carbon is looking for a Cyprus-based, part-time assistant to support our small but growing independent media platform focused on environmental, political, and social issues in Cyprus.
- 🕐 Hours: 6 hours per week – ideally spread across 3 days (2 hours/day)
- 💻 Location: Remote, with the possibility of a weekly in-person meeting
- 📆 Contract: 3-month paid trial & possibility of extension
- 💰 Pay: €8/hour
- Start Date: September 2025
- 🎓 Open to university students
What you’ll be doing:
- Managing Black Carbon’s Events page (searching for/adding events, checking for updates, reaching out to organisers) plus the corresponding weekly social media posts.
- Organising and planning content or internal tasks.
- Miscellaneous support work (varies weekly).
- Occasionally attending events to help with coverage or networking (optional, but highly encouraged).
No experience required — we’re more interested in someone with the right mindset. You’ll have flexibility, creative freedom, and room to grow with the project.
Required Skills:
- Organised and good at planning
- Sociable and outgoing – enjoys meeting others and forming connections
- Creative and innovative – always brimming with ideas
- Proactive – takes initiative and works well independently
- Empathetic and engaged – especially within the values of social and environmental justice
Essential:
- Strong interest and basic understanding of political, social, and climate issues
- Fluent English (spoken and written)
Bonus skills (not required, but a plus):
- Graphic design or Canva
- Social media
- Greek language
This is an ideal opportunity for university students, recent graduates, or anyone looking to get involved in grassroots media and activism in their free time.

To ensure quality and consistency, all pieces must adhere to our editorial guidelines. These include:
- A strong focus on climate, energy, sustainability, or related issues;
- Well-researched, fact-based content with sources cited where necessary;
- A clear, engaging writing style suitable for a general audience;
- Original work not published elsewhere.
Although our focus is on the climate crisis, we do occasionally cover other social and political issues.
